Google+ Hangouts are a hot item for live streaming. They can be used instead of paying for Skype group calling, and they automatically handle switching video between participants. A Hangout is limited to only 10 simultaneous users, so live streaming to a wider audience offers many advantages.
When people live stream a Hangout there is usually a larger reason, typically special guests to talk with or a specific topic of conversation for the gathering. Since the Hangout is part of a broadcast, there are things participants can do to help make it a success.
1. Use Headphones or ear buds, not speakers
No matter how much you try to control it, if you are listening to your computer using a speaker, your microphone is going to pick it up and create an echoing problem. Using headphones instead, even iPhone type earbuds, will make a big difference.
2. Don’t watch the live stream while in the Hangout
Playing the Live Stream while participating in the Hangout creates two large problems: it consumes bandwidth needed by your Hangout connection, and it will create a destructive audio echo in the hangout itself. This happens immediately when you join, so before you join the Hangout close the live stream page or press the PAUSE button on its video.
3. Keep your mic off when not talking
The hangout will switch the video to you even when someone else is talking if you suddenly make a noise your mic picks up. This includes things you may not be able to control like car horns, dogs barking, etc. Turning off your mic when you’re not talking prevents accidents.
4. Use a web cam
Some people don’t like to be on camera, so they join Hangouts without a web cam or in a dark room. A Hangout is a video experience and this comes across badly. If you don’t want to be on camera, point your web cam at a stuffed animal or something interesting or fun and relavant to the conversation. Use something that can be associated with your identity.
When using a web cam on yourself, make sure your head is centered and not cut off.
5. Check your lighting
I’ve seen a lot of hangouts where the person was a black silhouette. Turn off any bright lights behind you and avoid being in front of sunny windows.
6. Keep people off your home network
Bandwidth determines how high the quality of your video is in the Hangout, and you want that to be as high as possible. While you’re in the Hangout you should keep people from using your home network, especially from watching videos, using Skype, or joining other hangouts.
7. Avoid using wireless
Wireless has less bandwidth than wire connected ethernet, and it’s vulnerable to all sorts of interference from anything generating RF like microwaves, cell phones, neighbors, etc. Your video will have many more quality problems using wireless.
8. Have a brief introduction prepared
When you’re called on, you should introduce yourself briefly. Think of it as a 30 second interview opportunity. It helps move things along if you’ve prepared in advance.
9. Let the host run the show
The host and guests are there by special arrangement, and are trying to create the best public experience they can. This is why it’s being broadcasted. This means it’s more about them than you, so try not to interrupt them or force your way into conversations. Wait for an opportunity.
10. Let someone else have a chance
If your participating as part of the public, after you’ve had an opportunity to speak or ask your question it’s very considerate to leave the Hangout so another person can enter and have their turn.

Occasionally Google turns its main page to be Doodle that users interactive with. They have done it again. Have you checked its page recently? Google has turned its normal page into an interactive mobile sculpture in honour of Alexander Calder, an American artist. Neat how the shadow moves and with the movie when you drag the pieces.
Personally, two of my favourites are the Les Paul guitar and the Pac man. They also work on your iPad. If you have not seen it then check them out and let us know what you think of them.
